The band first met in December 2008 for our very first get together late one Thursday night. From that first night the band had a great atmosphere and an instant love for great 60's and 70's music. It was January of 2009 the band officially formed with the line up of Big Phil (Drums), Gary (Bass guitar and vocals), John (Keyboard and vocals) and Young Phill (Lead/Rhythm guitar and lead vocals)
John and Big Phil met as part of a band in the 60's/70's known as the Skysounds playing as a resident band at the Skyline Ballroom in Hull. Whilst with the Skysounds Phil and John backed various artists including Sandie Shaw and the Rocking Berries.
Gary was an old friend of Phil's but until joining the Corsairs had never played together before.
Gary has played in numerous bands since the 60's including Chapter 4 and The Late Arrivals as well as many duos. Gary took a break for 20 years before being contacted and asked to play for The Corsairs.
Young Phill had always had a keen interest in music and began playing the clarinet from a very young age continuing to play late into his teens as principle clarinettist with the City of
Hull Orchestra. Phil also following in his dad (Big Phil)'s footsteps and becoming a military drummer with the City of
Hull Pipe Band. Before picking up the guitar and playing with various band. Until joining The Corsairs Phill had never sang and played on stage.
The band has had incredible success since starting in January 2009 and we are all looking forward to keeping on playing for
as long as people enjoy us.
We hope to see you at a gig soon.
